A problem with the collar of a men’s dress shirt is quickly noticeable. Can you place a finger between the fabric and the neck? The collar is too tight when the neck feels restricted, pinched or needs to be tugged for extra room. You should be able to breathe and unpinched by the fabric with the top button fastened.

When your shoulders look like the shirt hanger for your dress shirt, it may be a collar issue. The collar shouldn’t be snug but it should be felt against the neck.

Remember: There should be room for two fingers when you button the top button. If you’re not a tie wearer collar fit shouldn't worry you.
